So you all must be wondering, if democracy was so amazing in ancient athens then why did it end? Or others may be thinking democracy ended!!!? Well yes, sadly democracy ended in ancient athens but democracy didn't end in other places in the world. Okay then What Happened? Democracy ended in a war with Athens against Sparta. This War was called the Peloponnesian War. The Peloponnesian War was from the year 431 BC to 404 BC. The Peloponnesian War started after the Persian War. Athens and Sparta made a treaty that declared for 30 years they would not fight against each other, but the treaty did not last long. Why? During the time of the treaty Athens became richer and stronger. Sparta became envious. They were willing to fight to claim the Land of corinth, (a city in Greece). This was how the war began. In the end, Sparta took over ancient athens. Surprisingly, Sparta did not destroy the city of Athens nor enslave the people who lived there but, it was no longer a democracy. Democracy lasted from 507 BC. to 431 BC, in ancient athens. Though, democracy did not end. Democracy is still being used in European cities, and in the United states. So actually, democracy's real time period is
